July 1, 2013—Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) is actively soliciting entries for its 2014 Excellence in Flexography Awards Competition. Effective immediately, each entry submitted into the packaging, printing and converting industry’s most prestigious print competition will automatically be entered into a prize drawing for an Apple iPad mini. The more entries a company or individual submits, the greater the odds are of winning the highly popular 7.9-in. tablet. The campaign ends Sept. 13, 2013.

FTA’s annual Excellence in Flexography Awards competition regularly showcases the best print work from an industry that is thriving, continually evolving and always in-tune with innovation. Each year teams of judges evaluate an assortment of labels, pouches, shrink sleeves, folding cartons, corrugated boxes, linerboard containers, envelopes, napkins, balloons, cups, plates and flexibles to determine which takes home a gold, silver, bronze or the coveted Best of Show designation. Print samples are evaluated for high-quality graphics, tight registrations, extensive tonal ranges, color that is crisp, and type that is solid, just to name a few judging considerations.

“We’re excited to offer our members the opportunity to send in their best work early this year,” said FTA/FFTA President Mark Cisternino. “And we thought we’d add some fun to the mix by sweetening the proverbial pot with an iPad mini giveaway.” He added, “If this past year’s Excellence competition proved anything, it’s that flexographic print quality is advancing at a blistering pace. We can’t wait to see how the quality of entries continues to evolve for the 2014 competition.”

This year’s awards program, which culminated with a Gala Awards Banquet during the 2013 Forum in April, saw a total of 517 entries submitted with 102 pieces of printed packaging garnering an award. Specifically:

  • 35 Gold medals were determined
  • 34 Silver medals were selected
  • 33 Bronze medals came to be awarded
  • 7 of the 35 gold-medal winners secured “Best of Show” designations

Inclusion into the Apple iPad mini drawing is automatic so those submitting entries do not need to do anything other than complete the standard entry forms before the giveaway deadline of Sept. 13, 2013. The winner of the iPad will be announced the following week. Each entry is $80 for FTA members and $160 for non-members. Official judging of the entries will take place in January 2014.
