HAUPPAUGE, NY—Nordmeccanica welcomed more than 100 guests to the opening of its new North American facility June 2 with an event that included a keynote, several presentations and a demonstration of the company’s laminating capabilities. The day began with the approximately 120 attendees witnessing the official ribbon cutting on Nordmeccanica’s new facility, larger than its previous location. In attendance were:
- Vincenzo Cerciello, president, Nordmeccanica N.A.
- Alfredo Cerciello financial director, Nordmeccanica Group
- Giancarlo Caimmi, commercial director, Nordmeccanica Group
- Patrick Vecchio, Smithtown town supervisor
With the company’s Super SL Simplex behind him—bearing a note indicating its sale—Caimmi led the event with a brief overview of Nordmeccanica’s history, expansion and product offerings. He was followed by Vincenzo Cerciello, who discussed barrier webs. “Why do we need barriers?” he asked the audience. “We need protection.” He highlighted some growth trends for various materials and barrier types and offered data to suggest future trends. In concert with the new location’s opening, Vincenzo’s brother Alfredo then discussed the company’s finances and capital resources.
Clemson University’s Dr. Duncan Darby followed, offering a look at his career path as a means to study the evolution of foil handling. Dr. Darby highlighted some of the benefits of using aluminum foil:
- A great barrier
- A high value appearance
- Softness
- Deadfold ability (it stays folded)
Juxtaposing his move from job to job and company to company with advancements and new understandings in the world of foils, Dr. Darby concluded by asking aloud, “Can U.S. converters process lightweight foil?” He said they could, with a few caveats:
- A modern machine is necessary
- The foil itself needs to be good and from a reputable supplier with whom you have a good relationship
- A converter needs to become a foil expert and learn to “speak their language”
Caimmi returned to the microphone to briefly run through barrier web lamination before a demonstration of Nordmeccanica’s Super SL Simplex showcased its capabilities. The machine was used twice: once for coated foil to PET and again later for foil/PET to LDPE. An hour long networking opportunity closed the event.
The company’s move to a location with more space was the result of growing market share. After operating in North America for more than 15 years, Nordmeccanica’s expanding install base necessitated the move to a larger building, enabling a more robust inventory of spare parts and increased office space.
