Matik Sells Codimag Press With ANIFLO to All American Label

Codimag MatikWEST HARTFORD, CTMatik, Inc. has sold its first Codimag Press with ANIFLO in the U.S. All American Label recently installed a Codimag Viva 420 intermittent waterless offset press with hybrid flexographic components at its facility in Dublin, CA. This is the first press with ANIFLO technology to be sold in North America.

Waterless offset printing is popular in the California wine market and the Viva 420 rounds out the converter’s production floor, already capable of printing flexographic and digital labels, folding cartons and signs for a variety of market verticals. This gives All American Label a wider range of run sizes with inline embellishing processes for unprecedented turnaround speed. The 16-in. Viva 420 includes stations for hot foil, screen printing, flexo coating, embossing and die cutting.

Codimag, a converting machinery manufacturer based in France, introduced ANIFLO technology into the Viva 420 in 2007 to bring more color control and consistency to label print production by using anilox and a sophisticated heating system to control ink density. Used in combination with offset inks and offset printing plates, ANIFLO overcomes the obstacles seen in traditional offset production.

Steve Leiben, VP of sales for Matik, the North America distributor for Codimag, noted, “At the last two printing shows we’ve noticed that the perception of American printers using digital technology has changed. Label printers are looking for a more cost effective solution than digital to the problem of printing short to medium run lengths with the print quality of offset, and inline finishing like flexo.”

Codimag has been active in the label business in Europe for many years, manufacturing presses that effectively produce on paper and film substrates since 1999. Today it has around 300 operating machines around the globe.

Pierre Panel, export manager at Codimag, commented, “The offset press is easier to control with the ANIFLO. Setting up a job can be done faster, which is important for the label business because you don’t want to waste material. The employees of All American Label are very good, and we’re very happy to have our first regional installation there.”
