Labelexpo Europe 2017 Preview: Focusing on Smart, Efficient Printing

Flint Group—Hall 5, Stand C24

Winners in Flint Group’s 13th Annual Print Awards will be announced during a live event at the Flint Group stand on Tuesday, Sept. 26. Print jobs recognized and honored will exemplify excellence and entrepreneurship in the wide world of narrow web printing, which includes labels, flexible packaging, cartons and shrink sleeves.

Flint Group is a solution provider with a product portfolio covering all major steps of the printing process, with the aim to provide superior results for customers. It encourages printers to demonstrate the enriched and expanding pallet of applications that are possible using narrow web presses, utilizing any print method of their choice—water-based flexo, UV flexo, UV offset, digital or a combination thereof.

This year, Flint Group is expanding the awards beyond inks and coatings to include Xeikon and Flexographic Products. To exemplify best in show, it will honor any company who can pull all three divisions’ products together in one printed piece with a very special award.

Esko—Hall 3, Stand C50

Two new Esko turnkey workflow solutions will be publicly unveiled at Labelexpo Europe 2017: WebCenter Essentials for Labels—a turnkey project management bundle for label production—and Automation Engine Essentials for Labels—a turnkey workflow bundle for label prepress workflow automation. Esko, also a 2017 FTA Technical Innovation Award winner, will also demonstrate how its innovations bring efficiency in each of the workflow steps of a prepress and flexo plate making operation. Key workflow steps of focus are:

  • Project management: Manage assets, approvals and projects from the initial concept to print-ready design, and connect ERP/MIS systems to workflow for smooth throughput and single data entry
  • Design: Hyper-realistic 3D mockups for presentation, proofing and QA
  • Prepress editing: Intuitive PDF editing with packaging-specific preflight functionality
  • Workflow: Easy-to-setup, preconfigured workflows boost prepress throughput and automate quality assurance
  • Color and printing: Color management supporting all printing processes and ink sets, even in mixed environments
  • Flexo plate making: An innovative, streamlined, automated and coordinated plate making process with guaranteed quality and consistency

Glunz & Jensen—Hall 7, Stand E41

Glunz & Jensen will introduce a complete new line of flexo plate processing equipment, FlexPro, and exposure systems, FlexPose. These new products will be available for plate formats of 36-in. by 47-in., 47-in. by 63-in. and 52-in. by 80-in. The new FlexPose and FlexPro systems will set new standards for exposure and processing latitude, enabling them to work with the latest digital plate technologies.

MacDermid Graphics Solutions—Hall 5, Stand A17

MacDermid Graphics Solutions will focus on showcasing comprehensive plate making solutions optimized for label printing. It will highlight concepts for taking labels to the next level through optimization of the plate making workflow and detail unique partnerships linked to the product portfolio that will have a positive impact on the flexographic industry for years to come.

Asahi Photoproducts—Hall 5, Stand A34

New at Labelexpo Europe 2017 from Asahi Photoproducts is the AWP-DEW plate solution, incorporating the renowned quality properties of AWP-DEF plates with the addition of a faster plate processing speed, making this plate ideal for labels and packaging operations with higher plate throughput looking to achieve significant quality and OEE benefits.

A feature of many of Asahi’s flexographic printing plates, Pinning Technology for Clean Transfer enables a clean ink transfer, and prevents ink accumulating on the plate surfaces and shoulders in screen areas. This leads to fewer cleaning intervals and reduced press downtime, as well as significant quality improvements.

CRON—Hall 9, Stand B18

CRON will showcase the HDI Flexo 600 and 1600 CTP models. The HDI Flexo range—designed to provide outstanding flexibility—is available in three formats: 23.6-in. and 35.4-in. for label applications; and 62.9-in. for general packaging work. All HDI Flexo models are compatible with thermal film, digital polyester-back flexo and letterpress plates. Additionally, the HDI 600 features a clamping system, which makes it possible to image on a diverse range of media, including thermal offset plates and dry offset metal-backed plates. The HDI Flexo models offer low-cost solutions for a wide range of applications without compromising on quality. Three model variants allow users to fine tune production to their print requirements: “S” variants have a maximum resolution of 5,080 dpi, while “S+” and “H” variants have a maximum resolution of 9,600 dpi.
