Six States Demand Packaging Data by May 31
The Circular Action Alliance has issued an urgent bulletin highlighting a critical set of deadlines that apply across multiple states’ extended producer responsibility programs for packaging and paper. Producers in the six impacted states—California, Colorado, Maryland, Minnesota, Oregon and Washington—must submit required reports to the CAA by May 31, 2026, to remain compliant with state laws.
The required reports vary by state but broadly include annual supply reports, simplified supply reports, and—in California—additional baseline and source reduction reporting. The U.S. producer responsibility organization cautions that the scope and complexity of reporting obligations differ significantly so producers must prepare their reporting carefully. Furthermore, EPR laws can define producer differently, either compelling flexographic printing companies to assist CPGs with complying detailed packaging data or making the print service provider directly responsible for reporting packaging data and potentially paying fees.
