Simply Fantastic!
HOLLAND, OH–“We’re not just here to print; we’re here to help make the entire project better!” Pat Sullivan (pictured, bottom left), CEO, Dynamic Dies, Inc, proclaims.
“Custom printing is part art, part science,” he contends. “With the right team, smart material choices, strong partnerships, and attention to detail; you can consistently produce great results. That’s the approach we take, and it’s what helps us earn our customers’ trust project after project.”
Case-in-point, and now in the news—going Hollywood!
It’s a limited run, yet a major production at the same time. Dynamic Dies, an FTA member in good standing for nearly four decades, has been working behind the scenes in creating custom collectible pizza boxes for Little Caesars’ new limited edition Fantastic Four-N-One Pizza.
Collaboration stretches from Marvel studios; to Detroit, homebase of the pizza chain; and on to Holland (Toledo) OH, and Dynamic Dies packaging design studio. Product is out there. Soft launch occurred June 16 and a nation-wide media campaign hit June 23–just before the June 25th national release of the movie.
“We’re proud to have played a part in bringing a little Hollywood magic to pizza night,” Sullivan explains. The four-piece box set, which ties into the Fantastic Four: First Steps film and features exclusive artwork celebrating Marvel’s beloved superhero team. By name:
- Reed Ricards a.k.a. Mr Fantastic
- Susan Storm Richards a.k.a. The Invisible Woman
- Johnny Storm a.k.a. The Human Torch
- Ben Grimm a.k.a. The Thing
Each character gets his/her own box, Sullivan reports. Designed to be collected, the boxes each feature a member of the Fantastic Four—and when all four are combined, they reveal a hidden, full-image mural connecting the characters in a bold visual tribute to the franchise. The pizza itself combines four unique flavor zones in one pie and can be customized ensuring everyone has a fantastic slice waiting.
Dynamic Dies worked backstage to bring this bold packaging concept to life, delivering
precision-engineered tooling that made the high-impact, interconnected box design possible.
From die creation to production support, it partnered with converters to help ensure
that the artistic vision translated seamlessly into mass production. The campaign showcases how innovation in die-making and packaging design can create memorable fan experiences.
“This was a really fun project for our team,” Sullivan observes. “It’s not every day a Toledo, OH-based business gets to help shape a campaign tied to one of the world’s biggest entertainment brands.”
In offering an exclusive recap to FLEXO, Sullivan reflects on the accomplishment. “First and foremost, it’s about the people. A knowledgeable, experienced team is the backbone of any custom printing project. From planning to production, having folks who know what they’re doing and who work well together means better outcomes and fewer headaches.”
He insists, “Collaboration across the board keeps everything moving in the right direction.” Elaborating on the point, detail after detail comes out. “Choosing the right materials is paramount. For our latest project, we opted for a hard durometer backing paired with a soft durometer printing polymer. This combination allows for optimal ink coverage in solid areas while still providing the fine detail necessary for intricate designs. The ability to customize products for specific scenarios further enhances the overall quality and effectiveness of the final output.’
Sullivan admits, “No two jobs are exactly alike, which is why we treat every project as a true partnership with the customer. We stay in close communication throughout the process, from the initial specs to shipping the final product. Regular check-ins between departments keep everyone aligned, and our customers appreciate being in the loop.”
Focus is essential according to the team leader. “We spend a lot of time on the artwork because even small issues can cause big problems during printing. Things like color treatment, overprints, and plate design all need to be carefully considered. Balancing solid coverage with detailed elements takes precision, and getting it right is one of the things we pride ourselves on.”
Sullivan notes, “Mounting large printing plates can be tricky. Making sure everything lines up perfectly, with no visible gaps, takes real expertise. Our team is great at catching and solving issues early, so that what comes off the press looks exactly like it should.”
Always open to sharing expertise, he says, “Sometimes, customers ask us how to improve the look of solid areas. One easy trick we often recommend—’Use black on the back of the print, it really helps with coverage.’ It’s little things like this that show our steadfast commitment to continuous improvement.”
