NEWARK, NJ—Long time Flexographic Technical Association, Association of Independent Corrugated Converters, and International Corrugated Packaging Foundation members will be saddened to learn of the death of Laurence C. Schiffenhaus, past president, Schiffenhaus Packaging Corp. He passed away peacefully on March 2, 2025. He was 95.

Larry graduated from Dartmouth College in 1952, then married Elizabeth (Betty), before serving in the Korean War. Together, they had an amazing 74 years, having raised seven children (Chip, Mary Ann, Betsy, Peggy, Patty, Peter, and Mark). He was also grandfather to 18 and great grandfather to six.

With his brother Anton, Larry was a driving force behind the growth of Schiffenhaus Packaging, the company founded by his great grandfather in 1895. Under his and Anton’s tenure, the company increasingly focused on environmentally friendly packaging and advanced printing technologies.

In the early 1980s, Schiffenhaus Packaging helped pioneer flexographic preprint throughout the industry in both the US and Canada. In February, 2006, the family sold the business to Southern Container Corp. Two years later, Southern container was sold to RockTenn. Then, in 2015,  RockTenn merged with Westvaco to form WestRock, a prominent FTA member largely associated with corrugated and folding carton applications.
