Trump Administration Imposes New Tariffs on 60 Trade Partners
US announces double-digit tariffs on 60 trade partners, including Canada, the European Union, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. The action will cover 99.4% of U.S. imports.
In a written statement on Thursday, July 23, 2026, The Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) noted the action is the result of “a specific direction of the President, on March 12, 2026.” At that time, USTR initiated 60 investigations related to what the agency determined was a failure of the subject country’s economy to impose and effectively enforce a prohibition on the importation of goods produced with forced labor. In a fact sheet produced for the media, the USTR stated, “The United States is the only country in the world to adopt and effectively enforce a ban on imports made with forced labor.”
Also on July 23, 2026, the White House published a Presidential Memoranda for the USTR that listed every country to face tariffs under this new action.
