Best Intentions

What statement best describes your intent moving forward?

Fifty-eight percent of poll participants resolve to “continuously improve.” According to 19 percent of respondents, that entails simple strategies like, “Get better, more consistent, less wasteful.” To the tune of nearly 9 percent, they commit to “working harder and smarter.” Seven percent expect to automate and 5 percent will streamline and simplify—operations, procedures and practices. Just under 2 percent promise to establish higher standards.

Vital Moves

What strategies are you most likely to deploy to meet challenges?

Solutions to current-day challenges entail implementation of three core strategies, according to survey findings: Automate. Innovate. Educate. Most popular to little surprise—innovate—77 percent of respondents see that as the best course of action. Fifty-six percent, including a good portion of the innovation advocates, point to the importance of education and 47 percent stand keenly aware of automation’s growing impact. By and large, proponents favor a blending of the three strategies to maximize benefits to the business.

Here’s what they tell FLEXO:

  • “Product and productivity improvements through innovation, while essential, must be done sustainably”
  • “Staying focused on new technology will improve OEE”
  • “Labor is everyone’s major focus. Being able to attract and keep employees will be tough. If we can hire them, they will be expensive. If we can’t find anyone to hire, we will automate”
  • “With increases in costs, we must work with less waste”
  • “Expect fast changes that help to improve OEE”
