Color-Logic’s Visualis3R Introduces Layer Mapping Tool to Standardize Print Embellishment Workflows

Visualis3R has introduced a new Layer Mapping Manager feature aimed at addressing a persistent challenge in print embellishment workflows: inconsistent terminology across design and production environments.

In global print production, embellishment effects such as spot UV, varnish, lacquer, and foil are often labeled differently depending on the designer, region, or software used. These variations, sometimes as simple as spelling differences, can lead to misinterpretation, production delays, or costly errors during prepress and finishing.

The newly launched Layer Mapping Manager is designed to eliminate that friction by allowing users to map incoming layer names to the correct embellishment effect. Rather than requiring designers to adhere to a strict naming convention, the system translates varying terminology into standardized production outputs, maintaining both flexibility and accuracy.

According to Mark Geeves, Director of Sales and Marketing at Color-Logic, the exclusive distributor of Visualis3R, the feature reflects a practical need within the industry. “There are many different ways designers describe embellishments, and that lack of consistency can create confusion as files move through production,” he said. “This tool enables teams to preserve the designer’s intent while ensuring the correct processes are applied downstream.”

The Layer Mapping Manager also supports evolving industry standards, allowing new terminology to be incorporated as best practices continue to develop. This adaptability is particularly relevant as print embellishment becomes more widely used to enhance shelf impact, brand differentiation, and perceived product value.

By bridging the gap between creative intent and production execution, Visualis3R aims to streamline communication between designers and prepress teams, reducing errors while maintaining creative flexibility.

As embellishment technologies continue to gain traction, tools that simplify workflows and improve consistency are expected to play a key role in broader adoption across the label and packaging sectors.
