Code-It Expands Flexo Capabilities with New Mark Andy P7 Installation

UK-based converter Code-It Labels is scaling up its production capabilities and positioning itself for growth in flexible packaging with the installation of a 20-inch Mark Andy Performance Series P7 flexo press at its Warrington facility.

The investment reflects the company’s long-standing strategy of leveraging technology to meet evolving customer demands for quality, consistency and cost efficiency. Over the past two decades, Code-It has steadily built its pressroom around Mark Andy equipment, progressing from a 10-inch 2200 model to multiple 13-inch Performance Series presses and now to its widest platform to date.

“We’ve always believed in investing in the right technology to support our customers,” said Phil Barker, owner and managing director. “This latest addition gives us the flexibility and capacity to continue growing while maintaining the standards our clients expect.”

Originally established in 2000 and entering label production two years later, Code-It has expanded alongside its equipment capabilities. As web widths and color capabilities increased from six to eight colors with full UV curing, the company captured new business and broadened its application range.

Today, Code-It operates out of a 10,000-square-foot facility across five units and employs 16 staff. The added capacity from the new press has enabled a more efficient single-shift operation, reducing overhead while increasing throughput.

The newly installed P7 is an eight-color, servo-driven flexo press equipped with features designed to support both label and flexible packaging production. These include delam/relam, turn bars, laminating capabilities, dual rewind and full UV curing. The addition of a Chill Pack system allows the company to run unsupported films—an essential requirement for its push into flexible packaging markets. The press also supports booklet production, including two-across A4 formats.

While Code-It maintains digital inkjet capability for short-run work, Barker noted that advancements in flexo technology continue to blur traditional boundaries. “Modern flexo presses have significantly reduced makeready times, allowing us to run many jobs more efficiently than ever before,” he explained. “Automation features like auto-register on the P7 make a real difference on the shop floor.”

The company’s expanded capabilities are already opening doors. Code-It is seeing increased demand for applications such as shrink sleeves and is leveraging existing customer relationships to grow its presence in flexible packaging. Many clients are now sourcing both label and flexible packaging solutions from a single supplier.

From a supplier perspective, Mark Andy sees the installation as a natural progression. “Moving to a wider web width enhances Code-It’s versatility while maintaining operational consistency across its press fleet,” said Antony Cotton, sales manager at Mark Andy UK. “That flexibility is especially valuable as demand grows for applications like peel-and-reveal labels.”

Code-It’s continued investment underscores a broader commitment to sustainable growth, supported by industry certifications including ISO 9001 and BRC. According to Barker, however, the company’s success ultimately comes down to relationships.

“Certifications validate what we do, but it’s our reputation and long-term partnerships that truly define us,” he said. “Our collaboration with Mark Andy has played a significant role in where we are today.”

With its latest press installation now operational, Code-It is well positioned to pursue new opportunities in both labels and flexible packaging, while maintaining the production efficiency and quality standards that have driven its growth to date.
