GMG to Feature OpenColor 2.07 at INFO*FLEX 2017

HINGHAM, MAGMG, a leading developer and supplier of high end color management software solutions, will be focusing on GMG OpenColor 2.07, the most recent version of the past FTA Technical Innovation Award recipient at booth 617 during the 2017 FTA Forum and INFO*FLEX, held April 30 – May 2 in Phoenix, AZ.

FTA’s Annual Forum is considered by thousands in the package printing and converting world to be the year’s only not to be missed event. Each year welcomes fresh and exciting enhancements, and often bold, new initiatives with this singular aim: provide the more than 2,000 conference goers with the tools, techniques and knowledge to remain competitive and become a force for the future.

GMG INFO*FLEX 2017“GMG continues to gain traction with brand owners and converters who need to rely on color management to assure their packaging preserves consistent and accurate color. GMG OpenColor separation profiles allow package designers and pre-press companies to simulate different color combinations and production variables without going on press to check the results. It also provides powerful retouching tools such as channel remover and channel replacement. These actions are all done in a couple of minutes. When you add GMG proofing software to the GMG OpenColor profiling capabilities, there’s no match in the market to such a powerful color management tool,” explained Joseph Varone, GMG Americas president.

GMG OpenColor: Reliable Proof Profiles for Packaging Printing

GMG OpenColor software, a recipient of an FTA Technical Innovation Award, is the highlight on the GMG booth. With the increasing use of multicolor printing and different combinations of inks, substrates, screening, and other variables, packaging printing involves a lot of color fingerprints and profile tweaking. GMG OpenColor answers this challenge by providing a proofing technology that precisely predicts the color appearance of printed inks, particularly ‘overprints’—inks printed on top of each other without requiring extensive fingerprinting. It does so by applying mathematical models that predict the ink interplay for specific processes, substrates and spot colors without requiring extensive fingerprint data. In fact, even without any data, GMG OpenColor has the capability to predict process specific ink overprints. GMG OpenColor is now able to quickly create GMG DotProof profiles with spot colors for special substrates like foil or metal, achieving reliable color matching results.

GMG OpenColor’s rapid adoption by major suppliers and brands worldwide is unprecedented and a strong endorsement of this exciting new technology. GMG is now taking the next step to open up new possibilities for GMG OpenColor with third party applications, including:

  • Adobe Photoshop: With a direct connection to the GMG ColorPlugin integrated in Photoshop, GMG OpenColor offers a new predictive, on-the-fly profiling for layers and/or selections, from CMYK to any combination of process colors and spot colors. The new GMG OpenColor Preview function in Photoshop provides a color accurate preview with OpenColor prediction technology, so that all changes are immediately visualized. Profiling any channel change with a mouse click, GMG OpenColor turns difficult color separation and re-separation tasks into simple ones that anyone can master.
  • PACKZ: PACKZ is a PDF based prepress tool suite for professional package and label production. GMG OpenColor can connect to PACKZ in order to bring dynamically created GMG profiles to another solution. PACKZ, with GMG OpenColor profiles, can easily re-separate jobs to reduce or optimize number of inks on press (replacing magenta with a spot color or separate spot colors and overprints to a 7-color extended color gamut printing process). These complex re-separation tasks, very difficult in the past, can now be achieved on the fly.

GMG OpenColor opens up possibilities for other third-party applications like X-Rite PantoneLIVE or DIC ColorCloud.

GMG FlexoProof: Proof Even Challenging Color And Material Combinations

The variety of substrates in flexo print alone is a challenge for most proofing systems. Add a large number of spot colors and many proofing solutions become ineffective. GMG FlexoProof, however, has been comfortable working in these unique circumstances. GMG FlexoProof lets users create individual substrate structures such as paper fibers, embossed structures or corrugated board for proof output. Even unfavorable conditions such as printing on inferior quality paper can be simulated. GMG FlexoProof supports all standard spot color systems, with HKS and the Pantone Library preloaded as standards, and can be used with GMG OpenColor to achieve faster and better proofing profile results.

GMG Partners at INFO*FLEX

During INFO*FLEX, GMG partners will also be exhibiting with a focus on GMG OpenColor and GMG proofing solutions, including Hybrid Software (booth 119), Anderson & Vreeland (booth 429), MeasureColor (booth 408) and TechKon (booth 314).

“GMG looks forward, once again, to demonstrating to the elite flexo printers in the Americas our unique, accurate color management and proofing solutions,” concluded Joseph. “Both GMG and our partners will show how they can get the most accurate color from their flexo—and digital—presses.”
