Luminite Products Corp. Celebrates 90th Anniversary

BRADFORD, PALuminite Products Corp. is proud to announce that it will be celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2016. Luminite has a storied history in the development of printing and specifically flexographic printing in the U.S.

In 1926, it became the first full scale manufacturer of engraved aluminum printing cylinders. This was a significant departure from the wooden rolls that were currently in use. This allowed for significant improvement in the overall print quality and consistency. It was a game changer for printers in the wallpaper industry, which was the No. 1 market for Luminite for a number of years.

Luminite was the first U.S. manufacturer to introduce laser engraved, seamless, rubber covered cylinders into the market in 1976. Printers no longer had to rely on the molded, hand mounted rubber plates that were in widespread use at the time.

In 1996, it was one of the first companies to invest in new lasers that allowed digital direct laser engraving directly to the rubber covered sleeve or cylinder. This eliminated the need for distorting artwork and introduced flat top dot technology, which are standards in the industry today.

The patented Load-N-Lok system was introduced in 2012 which allowed printers to get away from air mandrels and full length sleeves when printing narrower than the press width. This revolutionary system saved time and money and allowed printers to maximize the capabilities of their presses.

Luminite continues to be a major supplier to flexographic printers in North America and numerous markets overseas.

Luminite relocated to the Lafferty Hollow Industrial Park in Bradford, PA after a devastating fire destroyed its offices in Salamanca, NY in May of 2010.
