Barrie Porteous 1945–2022

Barrie Milroy Porteous, deemed by many in flexographic printing circles to be “a man with ink in his blood,” was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Jan. 17, 1945 and passed away April 8. After receiving an honors degree in chemistry from Heriot-Watt University, he began his career in printing ink in his hometown.

Eventually, Porteous immigrated to Canada and obtained a job in the same field. His career in ink management included assignments with Sinclair and Valentine, Inmont, BASF and Sun Chemical.

An avid gardener, Porteous’ interest took him to the gardens of Britain and the mountains of Europe, the US and Canada to view alpine flowers. He enjoyed playing golf and was a soccer fan supporting both Man United and the Hibs.

Barrie is survived by his wife, Jean, her sister and brother-in-law, and several nieces and nephews.
