MPS Systems and Domino Host Successful Hybrid Demo Days

Hans Poortinga demonstrates the hybrid EF SYMJET press at Hybrid Demo Days 2018

ARNHEM, the Netherlands—On Oct. 17 and 18, MPS and Domino hosted the first edition of Hybrid Demo Days at MPS’ Technology & Expertise Centre in Arnhem, the Netherlands.

The event was well-visited both days with printers from all over Europe, who were treated with presentations from expert speakers and live demonstrations of the hybrid EF SYMJET press. This hybrid combination utilizing MPS’ advanced flexo capabilities and Domino’s leading digital ink jet technology enables label converters to print in both flexo and digital, finish the printing and converting (cold foil, laminates, varnishes, die cutting, etc.) all in one process.

The event was officially opened by Otto Muskee, MPS sales director EMEIA. He looked back: “This was clearly a very successful first edition of the Hybrid Demo Days. We are happy to have welcomed a large number of international guests, all interested in hybrid printing and particularly the EF SYMJET solution.”

During the presentations, including industry-respected speaker Dr. Sean Smyth, print & packaging consultant, visitors learned about the cost advantages of hybrid flexo-digital printing. Anum Javed Beg from Alexander Watson Associates also informed the audience about the trends and developments in the global label markets.

Two live demonstrations were given on the hybrid EF SYMJET press, showing job changes with minimum amount of time and waste. A highlight of the demonstration was a job change from self-adhesive labels to shrink sleeves. The EF SYMJET from MPS and Domino successfully prints shrink sleeves with flexo and inkjet processes.

During the demonstrations, MPS manager of the Technology & Expertise Centre Hans Poortinga pushed the limits of the press by printing shrink sleeves in perfect register with an impressive speed of 229.6.

The daily program concluded with a live connection with Gregg Temple of The Meyers Printing Companies, a U.S.-based print and packaging supplier, who explained how their MPS EF SYMJET replaced multiple older presses and achieves higher productivity.
