With more than 240 companies occupying 300+ booths (and many of those companies opting for expanded booth spaces this year), the INFOFLEX 2018 show floor is a busy place. The Solutions Theater offers a break from the hustle and bustle of walking aisle after aisle inside the Indiana Convention Center.
Located at the end of the 600 aisle—directly across from the show floor entrance—the Solutions Theater is an intimate setting where, over the course of both days of INFOFLEX 2018, 14 unique technical presentations will showcase all the newest and most essential technologies commanding attention in the flexographic industry. Each 20-minute presentation will offer a no-filler look at something worth your attention, from new inks and plate technologies, to the ongoing evolution of digital printing’s value-add, to the latest softwares that complement cutting-edge machinery, to alluring converting opportunities, with a Q&A opportunity before each wraps up.
Here’s the Schedule of Solutions Theater Presentations
Monday, May 7
Recent advancements in flexo technologies have enabled printers to do more, be it flat top dots improving the integrity of the final printed image, anilox engravings which achieve consistent ink transfer over the course of the printrun, or the use of expanded gamut (EG) printing. In the same breath is Digitally Modulated Screening (DMS) software and how it is redefining what’s possible with flexographic printing. Learn how the results from the “complete solution-based concept” are greater than the sum of the individual flexo process innovations and how DMS will redefine what is possible for flexography.
2:10 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Presented by Sean Teufler, technical director at Harper Corporation of America
Anilox scoring and its attack on print quality have been a plague on the printer and the anilox industry since the doctor blade was invented. Achieving quality is the No. 1 goal of the printer’s discerning eye, and no one wants to see a line—or worse—lines, obscuring what would otherwise be considered an excellent print. Discover the unknowns that contribute to anilox scoring, and better yet, how to successfully deal with them.
2:35 p.m. – 2:55 p.m.

How BRITE Is Your White?
Presented by Shyamal Desai, Americas marketing manager at DuPont Advanced Printing
As the color industry has matured, it has evolved to include multiple dimensions to be truly replicable and explainable. The industry is now facing a similar crisis with white ink laydown. While opacity is the primary measure to explain this, it isn’t the only measure. You need multiple dimensions to better understand what a good white laydown really entails. Come listen and understand what these other dimensions are and how they can be incorporated into a single, easy-to-follow measurement.
3:55 p.m. – 4:15 p.m.
Digital Can Support Flexo’s New Market Scenario
Presented by Matt Condon, OEM manager at Domino North America
How can a converter consider digital in flexo’s new market scenario? Take a look at how digital and flexo technologies can complement a label converter’s existing technology, and whether to consider a low-cost, entry-level machine, or a higher-end production system. This discussion will further explore how flexo’s new market scenario will positively impact the financial landscape of the label converter.
4:20 p.m. – 4:40 p.m.
Productivity = Profitability = The Future of Slitting & Rewinding
Presented by Randy Wolf, director of business development at Kampf Machinery Corp
Having been in the converting industry for more than 40 years, I have been asked many questions about slitting and rewinding. The two most common questions converters ask are, “How do we increase productivity and increase profitability, and what’s the future of slitting and rewinding?” With the numerous technological advancements and the acceptance of automation, combined with the forthcoming integrated information platforms, we can ensure productivity and profitability are the future of slitting and rewinding.
Tuesday, May 8
1:45 p.m. – 2:05 p.m.
Anderson & Vreeland’s Emergent Technologies – Hybrid Software and GMG Color
Presented by Jeff Skolnik, digital business analyst at Anderson & Vreeland
The European Flexographic Industry Association’s (EFIA) Technical Innovation Award was recently bestowed upon a printer who submitted an expanded gamut (EG) corrugated flexo job using Flint Group plates, with color conversion by HYBRID Software’s PACKZ and using GMG Color’s spectral data. Preparing files in PACKZ with color management by GMG—both provided to the market by Anderson & Vreeland’s Digital Portfolio—is quickly taking the industry by storm. Come hear about the way HYBRID Software and GMG Color are changing the way companies integrate prepress.
2:10 p.m. – 2:30 p.m.
How to Optimize a Printer’s OEE with Clean Transfer Technology
Presented by Dr. Dieter Niederstadt, technical marketing manager at Asahi Photoproducts
Clean Transfer Technology is a unique product lineup of Asahi Photoproducts flexographic plates, dedicated to improving the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) of a converter’s press. This presentation will explain the technology features of this chemically engineered polymer plate. It will also highlight the reduction in press downtime and refers to a case study at a flexible packaging converter. As market requirements such as productivity and quality are developing, Asahi will announce its first photopolymer plate, BFT, dedicated to improving OEE and providing a homogeneous solid ink laydown.

White Ink Transfer: Combining Anilox & Doctor Blade to Get the Optimum Result
Presented by Marty Cansler, national sales manager at Daetwyler
White ink transfer often brings challenges: pinholing, low opacity levels and excessive doctor blade wear, to name a few. These challenges are often looked at through single-entity solutions of only anilox or ink. Often overlooked is combining multiple tools and technologies to achieve the desired results. During this session, we will look at the best way to determine the right anilox engraving specifications to transfer white ink consistently and how to match the right doctor blade with that specification to get the best long term, repeatable result.
3:00 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.
