Fall Conference 2019 Session 3: Optimizing the Tools for the Race
October 28-30
Charlotte, NC
Session 3: Optimizing the Tools for the Race
Before the fingerprint is optimization. The goal of the optimization process is to identify the best combination of print variables that will produce the desired results.
Learn the importance of performing a print optimization to determine the prepress requirements, ink densities and press settings prior to fingerprinting. See what consumables were selected for the project, the attributes that led to their selection and how they performed on press.
“Attendees will get a better understanding of how to set up an optimization to better select the tools needed to run a job. Many converters assume certain tools (plates, mounting tape, anilox rollers, etc.) will give them the look they need because ‘It worked on this job’ or ‘We do it over on that press.’ By skipping the optimization process, a printer increases the risk of downtime and scrap to, for example, swap out an anilox roller or remount plates.”
Speakers

Where the Rubber Meets the Road
AJ Grome, E.C. Shaw Co
In the last 10 years, plate technology has made enormous strides in our industry. With so many options, how do you know you are getting the best plate for your application? Find out how, learn the differences between those options, and understand how to choose the right one.

Optimizing Transfer for Ink Film Thickness and Substrate
Sean Teufler, Harper Corporation of America
Hear what was done to optimize the print job’s ink and anilox rollers in preparation for testing, and how performing the optimization saves both press time and ink inventory. Further focus will be placed on optimizing the ink film thickness as it relates to the substrate.

Mounting Tape Selection for Optimal Print Quality
Ann Michaud, 3M Co
Optimization is an essential step in the FIRST methodology. And as with other components of the flexo printing process, mounting tape is an important variable. See a review of important considerations and the process used in the selection of mounting tape for optimal print quality.
