Strong Turnout, Sharp Impact for FTA Narrow Web Member Base at Labelexpo

October 4, 2012 – Flexographic Technical Association (FTA) the world’s leading professional society dedicated to advancing and promoting the flexographic printing process, networked with hundreds of its label printer members and non-members in Chicago, IL, Sept. 10-13 at Labelexpo of the Americas 2012. The association dispatched a seven-member team to interact with and assist with conference goers, as well as report on new member initiatives.

Drawing heavy foot traffic, FTA’s booth saw a steady stream of label printers (300+) wanting to join FTA, inquiring about its membership benefits, and looking to find out more about the Association’s upcoming Fall Conference & Tabletop Exhibition “Efficiency in Flexography: Connecting the Dots” (Oct. 15-17, Milwaukee, WI). A top demand from conference goers: tell us more about FTA’s robust FIRST Operator Certification Training Program so we can become a better printer! Additionally, attendees at FTA’s booth signed up for exhibit space at FTA’s INFO*FLEX Exhibition (April 29-30, San Diego), and took with them complimentary copies of FLEXO Magazine, the Association’s award-winning, flagship publication.

On Tuesday, September 11, FLEXO Magazine’s Publisher Bob Moran participated as a panelist in the Editorial Press Panel Session at Labelexpo. He shared the results of a comprehensive survey issued to FTA members, of which label converters account for 43 percent of the printer class. He revealed that 84 percent of responders cited FTA’s work as having sparked ideas that bring about con ti no us improvement. The survey also showed:

Moran also referred to recent studies that cited 92 percent of label printers in North America use flexography on the pressroom floor.

On Monday, September 10 strategic planning was the order of the day, as some two dozen FTA members, representing all segments of the industry, attended a full-day brainstorming session to formulate the basis of a new organizational strategic plan and plot future directions and goals. In the end, a multitude of ideas were conceived and opportunities were identified to broaden FTA’s reach into companies, digital printing, social media, additional member benefits and new training programs.

Immediately prior to the start of the show, FTA/FFTA Board of Directors/Trustees met and reviewed a very positive half-year financial report based on the Association’s and the Foundation’s strong performance throughout the year.
