KENNESAW, --Uteco North America welcomed more than 200 converters and vendors to a three-day open house event at its headquarters in mid December 2010. Mario Mucciacciaro, executive vice president, reported, “This event was intended to show the U.S. marketplace that we have a broad array of products that are capable of meeting the manufacturing needs of every type of converting operation. It featured a live demonstration on the Diamond HP 808 GL press, which is built for high volumes, and was demoed running a six-color job, with two full coverages, at 2,000 fpm."
That press was sold to Lallypak, a flexible packaging converter, based in Hillside, NJ. Sale of one other press resulted from the December event. Uteco now has 2,340 presses installed worldwide, 70 percent of which are CI presses. Of those 350 are positioned in North American pressrooms.
Mucciacciaro stressed that the company will continue to focus on the environmental benefits of its presses, including: waste reduction, energy savings and environmentally-conscious inks (EB and water-based). Finally, he said, Uteco North America looks toward launching a new automatic impression system in 2011, called Kiss and Go, as well as a new color matching system.
